Rationale

"The education system should highlight the importance of entrepreneurship and prepare the students right from school and college education to get oriented towards setting up of enterprises which will provide them creativity, freedom and ability to generate wealth."

Dr. APJ.Abdul Kalam, Former President of India

Entrepreneurship is the future of the modern society. It reflects a ray of hope to maintain a dignified life and also for the economic development of the country. But the role of entrepreneurship in the economic development and growth of a country is often overlooked. It is therefore important to create awareness about the concept of entrepreneurship. An interface is needed between our education system and needs of the economy. The culture of entrepreneurship begins in colleges. The college period is the time when students have maximum assets and minimum liabilities. By assets it means one has vast resources and facilities available in the form of friends, professors, laboratories, internet etc. which can be utilized fully without creating a burden on modest financial status. It is the time when one is young and is full of passion and energy.
It is therefore of outmost importance to encourage students to think and of course dream of becoming an entrepreneur as early as possible and in college itself because the experience, knowledge, network that they would gain would be far more in quantity and quality wise than material gains.

The Event

“Take One”, an entrepreneurship film festival is a weeklong travelling film festival showing films about entrepreneurship. The films will be presented with discussions including entrepreneurs, movie producers, movie directors, performances by college groups, etc. “Take One” is a tool to present the multi faceted approach to explore film’s role in advancing knowledge about entrepreneurship.

Objectives of the event:

“Take One” is much more than showing movies. The main objective of the festival is to promote entrepreneurship. The objectives of this initiative are as follows:
  • To create more awareness about entrepreneurship and make it a respectable career option in the eyes of the youth, society and media.
  • To glorify the contributions of the big and small entrepreneurs to the society, economy and the government which have gone unnoticed till date.
  • Create a platform for the entrepreneurial minds to come together and discuss their ideas, enterprise options, doubts and anxieties comfortably with each other and with experts and professionals.
  • To document and celebrate the stories of a few interesting entrepreneurs around us.

Partnerships

The festival is about bringing people together, behind the scenes and in the audience. The festival will also involve variety of people. Professionals who share their skills, sponsors who contribute their resources, students who perform at the festival, content partners who provide the films for the festival and entrepreneurs who share their experience. The event itself provides a setting where people regardless of their life experience sit together, laugh together, cry together and exchange ideas as an audience. The film festival invites participation from those groups also whom we have not been able to reach out through our training programmes and other interventions.

Education

The festival creates several opportunities to educate people about entrepreneurship. The festival provides venues for discussion, presentations, art and entertainment and other educational material. Through films, the festival also provides a vehicle to express entrepreneurial experiences.

Entertainment

While we also follow the approach of conventional workshops and seminars, a film festival is a good way of reaching youth as it is both entertaining as well as educating. As with Dhriiti’s regular ongoing programming, the festival's educational goals will be effective because the film medium is entertaining and will attract the general public.

The Films

Dhriiti will showcase a variety of films that touch upon different aspects of Entrepreneurship. Hence, the festival follows a theme based approach. A range of themes covering all the aspects of entrepreneurship is selected such as Social Entrepreneurship, Women Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurs Around You, etc depending on the interest of students. These not only highlight the entrepreneurs belonging to different era but also entrepreneurs working at various levels.

Multiple films are shortlisted based on themes. The list includes both commercial as well as documentary films. The list includes documentary films from various non-profit and charitable organisations such as Ashoka the Innovators for the Public, Going to School. The films portray the contributions of entrepreneurs all across globe, emphasizing the importance and various facets of entrepreneurship. Dhriiti aims to explore the many critical areas of entrepreneurship that have remained neglected till date. Hence, the film festivals would broaden
