Dhriiti has been working in the field of entrepreneurship and micro enterprise development from 2004 and has successfully run programmes in India. Dhriiti has partnered with numerous national and international organisations to create enterprises that contribute to the social and economic advancement of the country.
Dhriiti has been recognised for its pioneering effort in providing solutions & practices for micro enterprise development, in developing entrepreneurship education curriculum and in introducing micro entrepreneurship as a solution to unemployment and underemployment in India.
As our supporters say – “Dhriiti is one of the most innovative organisations, both in terms of ideas and practices, working in the field of promoting entrepreneurship. It truly lives up to its name Dhriiti – The Courage Within.”
We think it would be best to highlight the work done by Dhriiti through an example.
What was the problem? Underutilization of resources – chronic unemployment and underemployment among the poor rural community in certain areas of Assam and Meghalaya.
What was the solution? Dhriiti noticed that the sheath attached to the leaves of the Arecanut plant that grows locally in Assam and Meghalaya could be used to manufacture environment-friendly, user-friendly, lightweight plates that could be marketed in urban areas. Dhriiti provided the technology, managerial knowhow, and business consulting services to the local youth who set up micro enterprises in the villages to manufacture arecanut plates.
What was the outcome? Around 5000 people (directly and indirectly) started working in this micro enterprise value chain. They gained control over the business enterprise and developed a sustainable economic activity out of a raw material which was otherwise a waste. The supply of environment-friendly plates to the market as an alternative to plastic and styrofoam plates was a useful effect. The arecanut project is now self-sustaining.
Dhriiti has similarly helped create Micro-enterprises that manufacture bamboo mats as a raw material for Bamboo Ply manufacturing in rural and forested regions of Assam. Dhriiti has trained around 2000 passionate youth on entrepreneurship leading to creation of 200 micro enterprises across India.
We would like to identify more opportunities for micro enterprises to help people help themselves. We seek your generous donations:
Your funds will help us achieve the following:
1. Identify opportunities for self-sustaining Micro enterprises in under-developed regions of India. 2. Provide training, technical know-how, and seed capital to the youth in these regions so that they can successfully establish and run the MSMEs. 3. Provide entrepreneurship training and business consulting services to youth who have marketable ideas and passion to be an entrepreneur
Dhriiti's founders and board members all have management degrees from premier institutions in India. We believe that we can use our skills and training to work for the greater good by promoting the entrepreneurial instincts of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and helping them set-up self-sustaining SMEs.
